Hi, my name is Jens Bauer
I am a scientist and mechanical engineer.

My work is about fabrication and characterization of nanoarchitected metamaterials. I received a Masters Degree (Dipl.-Ing.) as well as a PhD in mechanical engineering (Dr.-Ing.) from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), in Germany. In my undergraduate studies I worked on biomimetic topology and shape optimization methods for lightweight design under Prof. Claus Mattheck. During my PhD under the guidance of Prof. Oliver Kraft I developed additively manufactured high-strength, ultra-light nanolattice materials at KIT’s Institute for Applied Materials. As a scholar of the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists I was a guest researcher at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2014. In 2017 I received a postdoctoral research fellowship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and returned to UCI to work on multifunctional nanoarchitected metamaterials with Prof. Lorenzo Valdevit.

in a nutshell

What are nanoarchitected metamaterials?
