Jens Bauer

Principal Investigator

Jens Bauer is an assistant professor in mechanical engineering and an Emmy-Noether Research Group Leader at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. He is leading the Nanoarchitected Metamaterials Laboratory at the Institute of Nanotechnology and is an associate principal investigator of the 3D Matter Made to Order Cluster of Excellence. Previously, he has been a staff scientist and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), after he had completed his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at KIT's Institute for Applied Materials.

Alina Sutygina

Postdoctoral Researcher

Alina holds a Ph.D. in engineering from the Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, and a M.Sc. in condensed matter physics from Tomsk Polytechnic University. She joined the Nanoarchitects team in April 2023 to work on 3D-printed inorganic materials.

Rafaela Debastiani

Postdoctoral Researcher

Rafaela is a physicist and holds a Ph.D. in natural sciences from the University of Freiburg. She is a characterization expert with the Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility, in charge of nano-computed tomography and jointed the Nanoarchitects team in 2024 to study composites.

Jiajie Liang

Doctoral Researcher

Jiajie joined the Nanoarchitects team in November 2022. After obtaining a M.Sc. in materials science and engineering from KIT, he is since July 2023 conducting his doctoral research on the processing and characterization of 3D-printable materials.

Mirhan Özdemir

Doctoral Researcher

Mirhan is a mechanical engineer and completed his M.Sc. on the topology optimization of printed lattices at Özyeğin University, Turkey. He joined the Nanoarchitects team in April 2024 to work on novel metamaterial designs principles.
